Group communication.

Just 2 simple photographs of what i observed to be an example of group communication.
Regardless of age, you can see that the characteristics of groups are:
1) Interaction.
2) Interdependence.
3) Shared behavioural standards.
4) Collective identity.
This post will be on group communication.
A group is "a collection of individuals who, as a result of interacting with one another over time, become interdependent, developing shared patterns of behaviour and a collective identity" - Trenholm(2004)

Group synergy is when a group comes together and accomplish what an individual cannot accomplish or find it hard to.

I strongly believe that everyone plays a part in a group.
It takes two hands to clap, with more hands, the louder the "sound".
To produce that clapping sound, every individual will fit into specific roles to form this cohesive group.

The roles range from people who are task orientated to those who take on maintance roles, seeing the welfare needs of the group and individuals met, and groupthink.

indeed, i agree on the importance of group communication. we are living in a society where by interaction is inevitable.

able to clearly bring across our ideas and thinking plays a important part in our life, not just in team building alone.

like what mention, it takes two hands to clap. the more the merrier.

Thomas Hobbes made the famous statement "Man are lonely, wretched creatures. They form communities and then states to safeguard their security and survival."

I have to both agree and disagree with him. People come together not only for their safety, but also to communicate. Scientific research has shown that man are not born to live a solo life. We are "pack" creatures, designed to learn, to teach, to laugh, to cry and thus, to communicate with each other.

Group communication is vital in the modern world. Imagine a world that the United Nations have the leading states unable to communicate with each other. Group communication is of utmost importance to facilitate coordination, cooperation and sharing of ideas between people.

The usage of your personal photos and experiences really adds a new dimension to this discussion. Keep it up!

Indeed, a well-balanced and effective group consists of people with different skill sets but having the same goal in mind.

Of course, there are also cases where too many cooks spoil the broth.

In life, we cannot always get to choose our groups. The best way is to acquire as many skill sets as possible for ourselves to serve different functions within different groups.

yes, i agree with cloudz that very often in our lives, be it in school or in the workforce, we do not have total liberty to choose the ingroups (project group mates/colleges) whom we wish to work with.

Thus, its much wiser/better for us to learn to be more of a people-person, a more effective communicator to be able to work with various unique individuals.

group communication is all good. but unfortunately it's harder to achieve than you think.

i'm taking Nash's Equilibrium into consideration here, where each member makes the best decision they can taking into account everyone else's considerations. well basically everyone's the perfect nice guy.

doubt you'll find that anywhere; but it'll be close to perfect group dynamics.

But whats special is that a healthy group needs different people with different personalities as well. eg, sociable people to balance dominating people who help make decisions for planning people.

Yes. I agree that communication is very important. In today's society, you are unable to choose who you will be working with. However you are able to choose how to work with your teammates to achieve fruitful results.

Communication is foreseeable in groups. Without commnunication, the group is unable to bring across their ideas and nothing will be accomplished.

In every society, it is impossible for man to work or live life independently without interaction with others. It is indeed inevitable that we come together to work cohesively in groups be it in the working world or at campus.Through consistant interactions, we rub off each other, gradually developing similarities in behaviour and interdependence. It is also in a group setting that we discover our unique identities and differences.

Effective communication is imperative in every group setting as it leads to a cohesiveness. As what Louisa had mentioned, we may not have absolute liberty in choosing members to work with as a team. When miscommunication arises, perhaps due to, the lack of mutual understanding, can lead to misunderstandings amongst group members. This triggers negative feelings towards each other, causing disharmony. Therefore, it is essential that as individuals, we set the bar for ourselves to improve and hone our PR-skills (People Relation skills) which involves learning to communicate diplomatically.

Effective communication can also facilitate a smooth exchange of creative ideas, bring about cooperation, productivity and dynamism of a group. It can potentially affect the morale of the team.

Group communication, it definitely is the foundation for societies, corporate groups, friendships, team based sports. It allows people to find their place in society, a group which shares their thinking, their ideas and methods. This too gives rise to the characteristics of the groups, which are in fact, characteristics of every member in that particular group.

Likewise, people with different opinions or ways of handling issues will need communication in certain groups they find hard to understand.

It too, would enforce the results or effects of their combined efforts. Social interaction must happen and it should happen with great group communication to prevent all misunderstandings and miscomings.

Two is better than one,a three chord rope is hard to break, groups are definitely a means to achieving greater successes together and i believe it will be prevalent in society for a long time to come.

As what Grace mentioned, Effective communication can bring about cooperation, productivity and dynamism of a group.
It can potentially affect the morale of the team.

It is so true that the various roles played by each unique individual in the group, will contribute either positive/negative results, based on their efforts and skill set of being an effective group communicator!

Group communication is definetely something very important in our daily lives right now.

There are so many different groups in our lives when we come to think of it.. the different groups of friends, classmates , project groups , colleagues.

In the various groups , we all want to acheive different aims and goals and to reach that , group communication plays a really important role.
